Hello, I am Janette Chilver a 13 years longarm quilting experienced, award winning, professional longarm quilter based at East Bergholt, between Colchester Essex and Ipswich Suffolk, offering longarm quilting services to patchworkers and quilters who wish to have their quilts professionally machine quilted.

I work on many quilts made at all levels of ability ranging from beginners and their very first quilts to heirloom custom quilting to quilts entered into shows. You can be assured that leaving your quilt top with me that it will certainly be in the very best of hands where I take the utmost care and attention treating all quilts like my own.

I can assure you that my professionalism and quality of work brings my customers back time and time again. Thank you to all of my lovely customers who recommend my services.

I use the fabulous Innova brand longarm machines in my studio which guarantees perfect stitches and tension. I am also the UK dealer for the sale of these fantastic machines.

I have a 22” Innova classic, an Innova M20 with Autopilot and an Innova M24 with Autopilot, all high end top quality machines.  The best in the industry in my opinion.  I have used other brands and never been 100% satisified.

I work from my dedicated professional business studio, where I stock lots of different waddings of different fibre content, 100's of wide width (108") backing fabrics, and a selection of jelly rolls, layer cakes, charm packs, fat quarters, solids, fleece, jersey etc.

I can discuss your design requirements for your quilt in detail with you either over the telephone, by email, or in person. I generally work on an appointment schedule to give each quilter an individual one to one consultation. So please ring me to arrange a convenient time for us both to discuss your quilting needs. I work at my studio full time so I can fit you in at your convenience. Saturday appointments also available on request.

If you are not in my local area, you can still post your quilt top to me, then I will quilt it to your specification and return it to you with insured postal services. I can also help you select a design and thread colour suitable for your quilt if you prefer.

Book an appointment for a friendly, professional, competitively priced consultation and best advice for your choice of quilting design and thread for your quilt.

Services include

  • Edge to edge quilting using allover pantograph designs
  • Hand guided and computer aided designs available
  • Binding preparation and attachment
  • Freehand meanders/stipples and other freehand designs including modern and traditional quilting.
  • Basting only service for hand and machine quilters
  • Custom freehand work using rulers, stitch in the ditch, freehand designs, crosshatching, curved crosshatching, feathers, pebbles, swirls. Show quilting/heirloom quilting services also available to those special quilt tops.

I have a huge range of pantograph (allover) designs, which is constantly being expanded. Although if a particular design that you need is not held in stock, there are literally thousands of designs available for my purchase. So if you see a design on another quilters website or in a magazine that you like the look of, please ask and I can order it in specially for you at no extra cost to you.

"Edge to edge" or "Allover" means that the same design is quilted all over the quilt from one edge to the other from the top to the bottom of the quilt. If the quilt has borders, blocks or applique, the design is quilted over the borders and applique. This can also be placed into the centre of the quilt top, and a different quilting treatment of the surrounding borders chosen. This is the most economical quilting service and suits most quilts.

"Partial allover" this is where I quilt an allover design in the central part of the quilt with a separate border design. This is slightly more costly than a basic allover design.

"Light custom" is anything from just simply stitched in the ditch, simple open quilting designs, usually still costing more than a basic allover design. Charged per hour

"Custom" means that there will be a different treatment of the borders, sashings and blocks and also takes any applique into consideration to the specification of my customer, this type of work also includes ruler work, template work, outline quilting, feathers, pebbles, swirls and other freehand work and is charged per hour. This is the most costly form of quilting as it is the most detailed work. This suits those special quilts with lots of applique, or lots of colour contrast needing different colour thread in different areas.

"Heirloom/show" this is the most costly due to the detailed work and time taken, again charged per hour.

"Modern custom" this is generally involving freehand pebbles, swirls, feathers, straight lines etc.

Modern and traditional quilting available.
